Case Background

A 3 year old boy presents to casualty with a midline swelling in the neck

 

Points to be elucidated in history:

Length of time patient had swelling - 4 days

Pain - yes hot, red and tender

Location - midline

Previous episode - nil

 

Examination

Throat and mouth - clear

Nose - clear

Ears - clear

Neck - 2 x 2 cm fluctuant, swelling in midline of neck, moving up on protrusion of the tongue.
